Seven Springer editors and editorial or advisory board members were the recipients of awards administered by the American Chemical Society (ACS) for 2008. The recipients were honored at the ACS national meeting in New Orleans, USA, on April 8, 2008.

The Priestley Medal, recognizing distinguished services to chemistry, is the most prestigious award from the ACS. It was given to Gabor A. Somorjai, co-founding editor-in-chief of Topics in Catalysis and Catalysis Letters.

Gerard F. R. Parkin, board member of Structure and Bonding, was the recipient of the ACS Award in Organometallic Chemistry. The purpose of this award is to recognize a recent advancement that is having a major impact on research in organometallic chemistry.

The Herbert C. Brown Award for Creative Research in Synthetic Methods was presented to Eric N. Jacobsen, editor of Comprehensive Asymmetric Catalysis. This award recognizes and encourages outstanding and creative contributions to research in synthetic methods.

Accepting the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, which recognizes and encourages excellence in organic chemistry, was Dieter Enders, board member of Topics in Heterocyclic Chemistry.

Susan V. Olesik, member of the Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry advisory board, received the ACS Award for Encouraging Disadvantaged Students into Careers in the Chemical Sciences. This prize recognizes individuals who have significantly fostered the interest of students, especially minority or economically disadvantaged students, in chemistry.

The Arthur W. Adamson Award for Distinguished Service in the Advancement of Surface Chemistry was awarded to Francisco Zaera, who is on the editorial board of Topics in Catalysis and Catalysis Letters.

Israel Wachs, editorial board member of Topics in Catalysis and Catalysis Letters, was honored with the George A. Olah Award in Hydrocarbon or Petroleum Chemistry. This prize recognizes, encourages, and stimulates outstanding research achievements in hydrocarbon or petroleum chemistry.
