Amsterdam, September 17th, 2008 – Elsevier is delighted to announce that the Journal of Informetrics (JOI) is the winner of the 2008 Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP) award for Best New Journal. The distinguished ALPSP award is open to journals launched within the past three years and considers a range of attributes including high quality peer reviewed articles.
Edited by Leo Egghe, JOI is in its second year of publication and has published a wide range of high quality articles from leading authors across all fields of information science, several of which have policy implications for research evaluation. JOI has been accepted by ISI/Thomson for inclusion in the Social Science Citation Index and will receive its first Impact Factor in 2009.
Over 3,700 institutions worldwide have online access to the full text of the journal and it is included within the UN HINARI, AGORA and OARE initiatives, providing free and low cost access to the journal in developing countries. JOI is also currently experimenting with new e-tools including links to the 2Collab social network (http://www.2collab.com/), the ability to publish supplementary data sets and models, and engaging with ontologies for the advancement of understanding in the fields the journal serves.
