Springer, one of the leading publishers in the fields of science, technology and medicine, has signed a co-publishing agreement with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. Together they will launch a journal entitled International Journal of Advances in Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics.

The journal will accept articles in all areas of engineering and applied sciences, but will be thematic in that each quarterly issue will be dedicated to a specific area of engineering science and applied mathematics. The journal will also publish review articles which summarize the state of the art and provide a perspective on areas of current research interest. The publishing partnership between Springer and IIT Madras will commence in January 2009.

This journal is being launched to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. IIT Madras is an "Institute of National Importance," created by an act of Parliament, and dedicated to the dissemination of science and technology. The IIT is seen as one of the finest engineering faculties in the world.

"Over the last 50 years the Indian Institutes of Technology have earned an enviable reputation for themselves in teaching and research. To commemorate the celebration of its Golden Jubilee, IIT Madras is launching the International Journal of Advances in Engineering Sciences and Applied Mathematics. IIT Madras is also celebrating fifty years of Indo-German Cooperation and it is appropriate that Springer is our partner in this undertaking. We are grateful to the eminent members of the international advisory board who have kindly consented to lend their names to this initiative," said Professor M. S. Ananth, Director of IIT Madras

Under Springer, the journal editorial office would be equipped with a manuscript tracking system to speed publication of important articles in the field. Articles will be published in Online First in full text via SpringerLink, Springer's electronic platform.

"Our cooperation with IIT Madras will give their journal greater international visibility and promote the global dissemination of scientific work done or published in India," said William F. Curtis, PhD, Executive Vice President, Clinical Medicine, Springer.

The journal will include Cross Reference Linking, Alert services, and Online First™, a feature by which articles are published online before they appear in print. Springer will also implement the online author submission system, Editorial Manager. This system allows the peer-review process to be handled faster, resulting in the speedy publication of the articles.

"This agreement cements Springer's commitment to India, and we are very happy with it. We look forward to expanding our partnership in other areas as well," said Sanjiv Goswami, Managing Director, Springer India.
