Book Announcement

Elsevier

Philadelphia, October 1, 2008 – Elsevier, the leading publisher of medical and scientific literature, announces the publication of the 40th edition of the most famous anatomical reference in the world, Gray's Anatomy: The Anatomical Basis of Clinical Practice (http://www.us.elsevierhealth.com/product.jsp?isbn=9780443066849) in September 2008.

In celebration of its 150th anniversary, the new edition provides meticulously enhanced and updated artwork throughout, while maintaining the distinguished lineage of the original. With more than 200 completely new radiologic, CT, MR and other imaging studies vividly capturing anatomy as it is seen only by physicians – and 2,000 images now in full color – readers will have a consistent, coherent view of every anatomical detail.

"The 40th edition of Gray's Anatomy remains true to the original intentions of Dr. Henry Gray and Dr. Henry van Dyke Carter, in that it describes the anatomical basis of clinical practice, from the perspective of leading clinicians and anatomists," said Editor-in-Chief Susan Standring, Emeritus Professor of Anatomy at King's College, London. "The 39th edition heralded a new era for the book – the Editorial Board took the radical decision that the anatomy of the body should be described regionally rather than systematically. Over the last four years, we have continued to update not only the words, but also the illustrations in Gray's Anatomy. I hope that readers will be as excited as I am by the hundreds of new artworks and images which accompany the text in the 40th edition."

Also accompanying this innovative 40th edition is full-text online access to Gray's Anatomy. As one of Elsevier's Expert Consult titles, readers can reference the entire book from any computer, search the full contents and download the thousands of high-quality color illustrations.

With the unrivalled artwork, convenient online access and state-of-the-art coverage of new clinical findings, Gray's Anatomy, 40th edition sets a new standard as the anatomical reference of choice.
