Boulder, CO, USA - This latest Reviews in Engineering Geology volume from The Geological Society of America brings together a wide range of approaches to the application of state-of-the-art geologic engineering methods to landslide hazard analysis in and around Seattle, Washington, USA. Developed as a response to a 1997 major landslide disaster affecting communities surrounding the Puget Sound, this volume includes both historical and recent perspectives on landslides and landslide mitigation in the Seattle area.

An introductory chapter provides a thorough description of the Quaternary and bedrock geology of Seattle, and nine additional chapters review the history of landslide mapping in Seattle, present case studies of individual landslides, describe the results of spatial assessments of landslide hazard, discuss hydrologic controls on landsliding, and outline an early warning system for rainfall-induced landslides. Also included is an up-to-date geologic map of Seattle.
