WASHINGTON, Feb. 3, 2009 — As a service to the scientific research community and in keeping with its commitment to the rapid dissemination of scientific information, ACS Publications has introduced a pilot program, called "Just Accepted," to deliver journal content online two to seven weeks faster than before. Authors publishing research in ACS Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Journal of Proteome Research, and Molecular Pharmaceutics, may now choose to have their accepted, unredacted manuscript published online within three days of acceptance. "Just Accepted" manuscripts appear in full as PDF documents accompanied by an HTML abstract. "Just Accepted" manuscripts are accessible to all readers and will remain available until replaced by the final edited manuscript when posted online as an ASAPTM article.

"Just Accepted" manuscripts have been peer-reviewed and accepted for publication. They will be posted online prior to technical editing, formatting, and author proofing. "ACS is providing this service to expedite the dissemination of scientific information in a fully citable format," Evelyn Jabri, Senior Acquisitions Editor and project leader, told Chemical & Engineering News.

"Just Accepted" manuscripts are assigned a digital object identifier (DOI) to be used when citing the research. The manuscripts undergo the standard ACS editing and formatting processes, with the final edited, published articles retaining the same DOI as the "Just Accepted" version, ensuring that citations link to the final published version upon its availability.

ACS Publications, which has been publishing high quality research for over 125 years, believes the posting of "Just Accepted" manuscripts will bring research to the fore faster than ever before. Further information on the new program can be found on the ACS Publications "Just Accepted" Manuscripts FAQ website.

The American Chemical Society – the world's largest scientific society – is a nonprofit organization chartered by the U.S. Congress and a global leader in providing access to chemistry-related research through its multiple databases, peer-reviewed journals and scientific conferences. Its main offices are in Washington, D.C., and Columbus, Ohio.
