BMC receives outstanding achievement award

Grant and Award Announcement

Boston University

(Boston) Boston Medical Center (BMC) has received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (CoC).

The CoC Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes the significant commitment by medical staff, administration and personnel for providing high-quality cancer care to their patients, as well as meeting and exceeding the standards set by the CoC Approvals Program.

BMC excelled in seven areas where commendation was awarded: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement. Specifically, the CoC noted BMC for its annual outcomes analysis study comparing hospital data to national data; a more than 14 percent patient accrual to cancer related clinical trials annually; offering numerous prevention and early detection programs to the community each year; its clinical trials and oncology staff actively participating in educational activities annually; and the implementation of several cancer-related quality improvements each year.

"BMC is extremely proud to have received this award from the CoC," said Lisa Kachnic, MD, chief of radiation oncology at BMC and chair of the Cancer Committee. "This award reflects our commitment to patient care, practice and research."
