Anusha Prabhakar wins AIAA-NASA internship

Grant and Award Announcement

American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics

May 19, 2009 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is pleased to announce that Anusha Prabhakar, a third year student at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), has won the second AIAA-NASA Summer Internship.

The AIAA-NASA Internship allows a student member of AIAA to spend eight to ten weeks during the summer working at one of the four NASA research centers: Ames Research Center, Moffet Field, Calif.; Dryden Flight Research Center, Edwards, Calif.; Glenn Research Center, Cleveland, Ohio; or Langley Research Center, Hampton, Va. NASA determines the length and location of the internship based on its needs and the student's background and interests.

Ms. Prabhakar is the chair of the AIAA student chapter at CSULB, and served as chair of AIAA's 2009 Region VI Student Conference. She has accomplished significant work for The Boeing Company as an intern in the company's commercial airplane and integrated defense systems divisions, where she worked on detailed drafting assignments on the center wing section of the 747B, and was part of the C-17 Stress Analysis Group. She is also actively involved in the CSULB chapter of the California Launch Vehicle Education Initiative, where she has gained hands-on experience on flight hardware development during the process of developing, testing, and launching low cost, liquid-propelled rockets.

When asked about the selection of Ms. Prabhakar for the internship, Neal Barlow, AIAA Vice President-Elect, Education, and chair of AIAA's Student Activities Committee, stated: "AIAA is proud to have Anusha Prabhakar representing us as a NASA intern. She is an extremely talented young engineer with a bright future. NASA's internship program will provide her with an engineering experience that only it can provide. We are pleased to be partnered with NASA and their continued efforts in developing the next generation of aerospace engineers."
