LA BioMed researcher honored by UCLA

Dr. Lynne M. Smith receives Award for Excellence in Education

LOS ANGELES (May 21, 2009) – Lynne M. Smith, MD, a researcher at Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center (LA BioMed), received the Award for Excellence in Education Wednesday at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The university established the award to "recognize outstanding dedication, innovation and sustained excellence in education."

Dr. Smith is an associate professor of pediatrics who also serves as director of the Level II Nursery and the Perinatal Clinical Research Center at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center. She completed her pediatric residency program and her neonatal medicine fellowship program at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in 1996, then joined the hospital's division of neonatology and LA BioMed.

"Congratulations to Dr. Smith on this wonderful honor," said LA BioMed President and CEO Carole Wagner-Vallianos, Esq. "She has excelled as an instructor and a researcher, fulfilling two of LA BioMed's primary missions.
