June 12, 2009 – Reston, Va. – The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) is pleased to announce that E. Vincent Zoby, of NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton, Va., has won the 2009 AIAA Thermophysics Award.
Zoby will receive the award at an awards luncheon at noon on June 23 as part of the 39th AIAA Fluid Dynamics Conference, 19th AIAA Computational Flight Dynamics Conference, 1st AIAA Atmospheric and Space Environments Conference, 27th AIAA Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 40th AIAA Plasmadynamics and Lasers Conference, 41st AIAA Thermophysics Conference, and the 4th AIAA CFD Drag Prediction Workshop, June 22-25 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, San Antonio, Texas.
Zoby, a specialist in the field of hypersonic aerothermodynamics, won the award for his significant and sustained contributions to the thermophysics community via the development of accurate engineering codes for aerothyermodynamics prediction, and for his mentoring of aerospace engineers. During his fifty year career at NASA's Langley Research Center, he has served on numerous advisory and review boards for NASA, the Department of Defense, and industry programs. He is the author or co-author of over one hundred technical papers in the field of aerothermodynamics, and serves as the editor-in-chief of AIAA's Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets. Zoby is an AIAA Fellow.
The AIAA Thermophysics Award recognizes a singular or sustained technical or scientific contribution by an individual in thermophysics, specifically as related to the study and application of the properties and mechanisms involved in thermal energy transfer and the study of environmental effects on such properties and mechanisms.
