Springer, one of the leading publishers in the fields of science, technology and medicine, has signed a co-publishing agreement with the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata, for one of their prestigious publications Sankhya - The Indian Journal of Statistics. Professor Sankar K. Pal, Director of ISI, Professor Alok Goswami, Editor of Sankhya and Sanjiv Goswami, Managing Director Springer India, signed the agreement at the ISI campus, New Delhi.

Sankhya brings statistical researchers from different parts of India in contact with each other, thereby providing a medium for the exchange of ideas. Sankhya was founded in 1933 by Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis who was the editor until his death. The current editorial board consists of editor-in-chief P.K. Sen; Series A editors K.B. Athreya, Alok Goswami, and Soumendra Nath Lahiri; and Series B editors Malay Ghosh, Bimal K. Sinha, and Ayanendranath Basu. Series A and Series B each publish two issues a year.

Sankhya contains research articles in the broad areas of theoretical statistics, probability and applied statistics. Series A primarily covers theoretical statistics and probability, including stochastic processes. Series B mainly covers all areas of applied statistics, including applied probability, applied stochastic processes, econometrics and statistical computing. Reviews and discussion articles dealing with current research activity are also published as well as bibliographies of Indian statistical publications, numerical tables to help reduce computation and book reviews.

Sankar K. Pal said, "Since its inception, Sankhya has been a source of pride for our institute. We are extremely happy to enter into this co-publication agreement with Springer. I look forward to a very fruitful and long-lasting relationship."

"Springer is proud to cooperate with the Indian Statistical Institute, and is delighted to welcome the prestigious journal, Sankhya - The Indian Journal of Statistics, to our portfolio. We anticipate that this agreement will significantly benefit scholars and researchers in statistics around the world, allowing them to benefit from Springer's global presence and our online platform, SpringerLink," said Sanjiv Goswami, Managing Director Springer India.

Sankhya will be published electronically and in print. The journal will include Cross Reference Linking, alert services, and Online First™, a feature by which articles are published online before they appear in print. Springer will also implement the online author submission system, Editorial Manager. This system allows the peer-review process to be handled faster, resulting in the speedy publication of the articles.
