Los Angeles, London, New Delhi, Singapore and Washington DC (October 5, 2009) SAGE announces Genes & Cancer, a monthly journal edited by Dr. Prem Reddy, founder and previous Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious and highly-ranked Oncogene.

The field of cancer research is entering a new and exciting phase where the convergence of information from genomics, bioinformatics, and modern genetics are beginning to provide new clues into how cancer cells overcome growth regulatory pathways. Genes & Cancer will cover all aspects of the structure and function of oncogenes, growth suppressor and apoptotic genes, their role in signal transduction process and the mechanisms by which their expression and function are altered during tumor development.

Genes & Cancer will publish original studies and reviews that are relevant to all aspects of cancer research, signal transduction, and developmental biology.

"In addition to publishing manuscripts that directly relate to these areas of research, one of the goals is to establish a journal that can attract papers in the emerging areas of genomics, drug development, and systems biology," said E. Premkumar Reddy, Ph.D., Director, Fels Institute for Cancer Research and Molecular Biology, Temple University School of Medicine.

Topics covered by the journal are divided into four broad categories: the structure and function of cancer-associated genes as well as genes encoded by the DNA and RNA tumor viruses; the role played by these genes in normal development; genomics and epigenomics of cancer, and; the discovery and mechanism of action of cancer therapeutics.

"Genes and Cancer is an important and exciting launch for SAGE. With a stellar editor and editorial board we expect the journal to quickly establish itself as a leading contributor to the vital debate on the causes and treatment of cancer." said Jayne Marks, SAGE Vice-President and Editorial Director, Journals. "Genes and Cancer will be available online through the HighWire platform of journals allowing reference cross linking between many of the key journals in the discipline."

Genes & Cancer will be published monthly beginning in January 2010. Manuscripts can be submitted at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ganc. Online subscriptions are free for the first three volumes for consortia and the first volume for institutions and individuals. For more information visit http://gan.sagepub.com.
