The Gamma Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, at the University of Utah College of Nursing, received a 2009 Chapter Key Award Saturday at the 40th Biennial Sigma Theta Tau International convention in Indianapolis, Ind. The Chapter Key Award, established in 1991, recognizes chapters that excel in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, publicity and programming, professional and leadership development, local, national and international collaboration.

"Gamma Rho is honored to receive this recognition of our chapter's commitment to leadership and knowledge development in our continuing efforts to impact both local and global communities," says Connie Madden, assistant professor (clinical) and president of the Gamma Rho chapter, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in April 2008. "The nurses who founded our chapter were true nursing leaders," Madden says. "Gamma Rho strives to honor the commitment of these leaders by following their example in the support of nursing leadership, scholarship, education and research. The Chapter Key Award is a reflection of those efforts."

Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society of Nursing, provides leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. The organization supports the learning and professional development of its members, who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.
