Dr. Leslie K. Guice, vice president for research and development at Louisiana Tech University, has received the 2009 Robert E. Russ Award from the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce.
The award is one of the most prestigious civic honors that can be obtained by a citizen of Lincoln Parish. It was established to recognize those who have contributed to the civic, business or cultural advancement or development of the region in an outstanding manner.
I am most honored to be recognized by the Chamber of Commerce," Guice said. "This recognition symbolizes the great relationship that Louisiana Tech has with the Ruston-Lincoln Parish community."
Past Robert E. Russ Award winners include William A. Marbury, James Davison, Eddie Robinson, and Tech President Dan Reneau.
Guice received his 2009 award in front of friends and colleagues during a ceremony last Friday evening at the Ruston Civic Center.
"We are very proud of all of Dr. Guice's work on behalf of Louisiana Tech," said Chamber President Scott Terry. "He's brought national recognition to the city of Ruston. Besides his involvement at Tech, he's also very much involved with several community groups throughout Ruston and Lincoln Parish."
Guice has served on the faculty and administration at Louisiana Tech since 1978. Before becoming vice president for research and development and director of information technology, he was dean of the College of Engineering and Science.
In his current position, Guice has been the catalyst for many of Louisiana Tech's new entrepreneurial and innovation enterprises. Most recently, Guice led the planning and establishment of Tech's new research park, Enterprise Campus, which will serve as a home for high-tech companies and government agencies looking to utilize the intellectual and research strengths of Louisiana Tech.
"Les Guice has made enormous and enduring contributions to the betterment of Louisiana Tech and our region," said Tech President Dan Reneau. "We are proud of his accomplishments and, personally, I can't think of anyone that is more deserving of this prestigious award."
"His leadership and vision continues to help create economic development and community enrichment opportunities for all of north Louisiana."
Guice's work has further led to development of cyber-related programs such as the Center for Secure Cyberspace and the Cyber Research Laboratory. These entities will both be housed in Tech Pointe, the first multi-tenant facility currently under construction at Enterprise Campus.
Additionally, the partnership he has created with the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City has established Louisiana Tech as a leader in cyber research and education.
"Public officials, as well as civic and community leaders, have been so supportive of all of our endeavors," said Guice.
"I believe that the University and community are poised for more great things in the future."
