WASHINGTON, March 22, 2010—The American Educational Research Association (AERA) announces publication of the 2010 edition of Review of Research in Education (RRE). Edited by Allan Luke, Queensland University of Technology, Australia; Judith Green, University of California, Santa Barbara; and Gregory J. Kelly, Pennsylvania State University, the newly-published RRE addresses the persistence of educational inequality, described by the three editors as "the most durable and robust problem facing education research since mid-20th century."

The contributing authors take a fresh look at issues of educational equity and reform as they examine varied types of evidence in education research across a broad range of educational issues, and how that evidence can be used to shape regional, national, and international educational policies on equity and inclusion. Entitled "What Counts as Evidence in Educational Settings? Rethinking Equity, Diversity, and Reform in the 21st Century," the new RRE is the 34th volume of this peer-reviewed publication.

The authors acknowledge a world in which diverse populations often face patterns of educational exclusion and marginalization. This volume scrutinizes different forms of evidence and focuses on the different ways of naming and defining, explaining and framing equality and inequality. Luke, Green, and Kelly note that "educational policy and practice committed to equity and social justice requires something more than approaches to accountability reliant on narrow measurement and performance indicators." The editors state that "to address questions of equity requires rich, interpretive, and evolving sciences."
