Medical fellows receive ASH award that promotes protected research time

Grant and Award Announcement

American Society of Hematology

The American Society of Hematology (ASH) is pleased to announce the five recipients of the 2010 ASH Research Training Award for Fellows, a grant that encourages junior researchers to pursue careers in academic hematology by supporting protected time to conduct research during their fellowship training.

"We were really impressed with the caliber of applicants this year and look forward to seeing the outcome of the research that will be conducted by this year's awardees," said ASH President Hal Broxmeyer, PhD. "It is imperative that early-career researchers are given the opportunity to conduct research during their training, which allows these talented trainees to develop the skills and expertise necessary for them to contribute significant medical advances throughout their careers."

The 2010 ASH Research Training Award for Fellows recipients are:

Alan Hanash, MD, PhD, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
Holbrook Kohrt, MD, Stanford University Medical Center
Kenji Morimoto, MD, UCLA Pediatric Hematology-Oncology
David Sykes, MD, PhD, Massachusetts General Hospital
Annette von Drygalski, MD, Pharm D, University California at San Diego

This program provides grants of $50,000 for a one-year period to third- and fourth-year trainees.
