New York, NY, April 12, 2011 – Elsevier, a world leader in health care and medical publishing and online solutions, today announced the significant expansion of scientific content to be published in Brachytherapy (www.brachyjournal.com), the Official Journal of the American Brachytherapy Society (ABS).

Published both online and in print, this international, multidisciplinary journal moves from a quarterly to bimonthly publication schedule in 2011. In addition, a meeting abstracts supplement will be published annually. These changes reflect Elsevier's and ABS's ongoing commitment to their mission to provide radiation oncologists, other physicians, physicists, and others interested in brachytherapy with the timely information they need to advance the quality and access to state-of-the-science treatments for their patients.

"The ABS Journal is a great success story for the association. Moving to six issues per year is a positive indication of the growing recognition of the journal and we are confident this will assist the ABS with increasing its membership as well," commented Rick Guggolz, Executive Director of the ABS. "Through the efforts of our Editorial Staff and Editorial Board, Brachytherapy is a beneficial, tangible and consistent resource for our members."

Under the editorial leadership of Michael J. Zelefsky, MD, Chief of Brachytherapy Service, Radiation Oncology, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, New York, NY, and an internationally recognized editorial board, Brachytherapy presents original peer-reviewed articles and selected reviews on the techniques and clinical applications and medical physics related aspects of interstitial and intracavitary radiation in the management of cancers. Laboratory and experimental research relevant to clinical practice is also included. Related disciplines include radiation oncology, radiology, medical physics and medical oncology.

Brachytherapy publishes technical advances, original articles, reviews, and point/counterpoint on controversial issues. Original articles that address any aspect of brachytherapy are invited; Letters to the Editor-in-Chief are encouraged.

"We anticipate that Brachytherapy will continue to thrive and expand as a forum for global information exchange about vital topics in the field, to the benefit of our authors, patients, society members and wider readership," stated Herb Niemirow, Publisher at Elsevier. "We will be able to better position the journal in an increasingly complex publishing environment and take advantage of emerging publishing opportunities."

Later this year the Brachytherapy website will launch a new user interface designed to enable visitors to locate specific content or browse issues even more quickly and easily. Brachytherapy will be featured at the American Brachytherapy Society 2011 Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, April 14-16, 2011.
