2 physicians from Women & Infants honored by APGO

Two physicians affiliated with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Women & Infants Hospital and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University were recently honored at the Annual Meeting of the Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO).

Urogynecologist B. Star Hampton, MD, of Providence, is the 2011 recipient of the Martin L. Stone, MD, Fund for the Advancement of Medical Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology Award. Dr. Hampton is a graduate of the 2009-2010 APGO Academic Scholars and Leaders class. She plans to use the funds from this award to advance her research, "Development and Implementation of an Operating Room Specific Curriculum for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clerkship."

Dr. Hampton also received the 2011 William N. P. Herbert, MD, Promising Educator Award from APGO. This award recognizes junior faculty with demonstrated accomplishments and a potentially bright future in women's health education. It is a national award given to one honoree each year.

In addition, resident Amanda Jackson, MD, of Warwick, is one of eight recipients of the 2011 APGO Resident Scholars Award. This award provides funding for ob/gyn residents who have expressed an interest in academic medicine to be exposed to the benefits of APGO by attending that society's annual meeting, as well as the annual meeting of the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology.

It is one of the largest and most prestigious research facilities in high risk and normal obstetrics, gynecology and newborn pediatrics in the nation, and is a member of the National Cancer Institute's Gynecologic Oncology Group.
