The Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) has sold the Asia Europe Journal and transferred the copyright to its long-time partner Springer. With this step, ASEF will no longer be associated with the journal. Relaunched with new editors-in-chief and refocusing on its core topics, the journal will further promote discussion on the challenges and opportunities of a common future of Asia and Europe.

The Asia Europe Journal: Studies on Common Policy Challenges was launched in 2003 by ASEF in co-operation with Springer as one of the foundation's flagship projects. It was accepted for the Social Sciences Citation Index in 2010.

The quarterly journal publishes academically and intellectually rigorous research papers as well as topical policy briefs and thought pieces. Topics include issues of bi-regional interest, including management and political economy, innovation, security studies, regional and global governance, as well as socio-cultural developments and historical events.

The new editors-in-chief are Dr. Yeo Lay Hwee, Director of the European Union Centre in Singapore and Senior Research Fellow at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, and Dr. Werner Pascha, Chair of East Asian Economic Studies at the Institute of East Asian Studies at Duisburg-Essen University in Germany.

Amb. Dominique Girard, ASEF Executive Director, said, "The Asia Europe Journal served for eight years as an important intellectual outlet of our work to promote mutual understanding and knowledge between Asia and Europe. With a steadily increasing readership and growing expectations towards the marketing and distribution, ASEF came to the conclusion that Springer would be in the best position to further develop the journal."

Barbara Fess, Editor, Business and Economics at Springer, said, "We see great potential in this journal and believe it fills a gap in a highly and increasingly relevant field. We are pleased to continue publishing the Asia Europe Journal as a Springer-owned, independent academic journal with an excellent new editorial team."
