London, UK (1st July 2011) – The Editor in Chief of the #1 ranked journal in robotics*, International Journal of Robotics Research (IJRR), has welcomed the announcement made by President Obama to spend $70 million on a new robotics initiative.

John M. Hollerbach, Editor in Chief since 2000, said "The US National Robotics Initiative is a recognition of how far robotics has progressed, and of the many areas that robotics impacts. Surgical robots, autonomous driving vehicles, underwater and space robots, robots in the home, and robots for defense are just some of the systems being deployed. The robotics community in the US -- academia, industry, and government -- has come together to create this initiative to help move robotics to the next level for the benefit of society."

International Journal of Robotics Research (IJRR) was the first scholarly publication on robotics research; it continues to supply scientists and students in robot and related fields - artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering - with timely, multidisciplinary material on topics from sensors and sensory interpretations to kinematics in motion planning. IJRR also publishes peer reviewed data papers and multimedia extensions alongside articles. IJRR is ranked as the #1 journal in robotics based on 2010 Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports (JCR).

SAGE publish a wide range of journals that cover this topic, including Transactions of the Institute of Measurement and Control, The Journal of Defense Modeling and Simulation: Applications, Methodology, Technology (JDMS), SIMULATION: Transactions of the Society of Modeling & Simulation International, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part I: Journal of Systems and Control Engineering Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine, Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science and Adaptive Behavior.
