Business Announcement

Springer

Starting in January 2012, Springer will publish Biointerphases: Journal for Quantitative Biological Interface Data. An official publication of the American Vacuum Society (AVS), Biointerphases will be published as an open access journal under the brand SpringerOpen. It was previously published by the American Institute of Physics.

Biointerphases presents interdisciplinary coverage of all aspects of quantitative soft matter interfaces: chemistry, physics, engineering, theory and modeling. The peer-reviewed, quarterly journal features reviews, essays, original articles, reports, perspectives, editorial commentary and letters. Topics include interface spectroscopy, in vivo and in vitro mechanisms, interface modeling, adhesion phenomena, and protein-surface interactions, among others. Michael Grunze of the University of Heidelberg in Germany is editor-in-chief.

Authors who publish in SpringerOpen journals retain copyright under the Creative Commons Attribution License. Articles are freely available online and can be redistributed and reused. An easy-to-use submission system allows the upload of manuscripts in various formats as well as multimedia and datasets.

Marion Hertel, Executive Editor Chemistry at Springer, said, "Biointerphases reflects two major Springer strategies: growth in the interdisciplinary subject fields where life sciences meet chemistry, physics and technology, and the rapid expansion of Springer's open access portfolio. Michael Grunze and the American Vacuum Society are the perfect partners for this undertaking."

Angus Rockett, President of the American Vacuum Society, said, "We are extremely pleased to be working with Springer. The partnership brings a great journal created by the AVS together with a world-leading publishing house with a strong and diverse catalog of journals. We look forward to the growth of Biointerphases in readership and recognition, establishing itself as the place to publish scientific works on soft matter interfaces."
