SEPM announces 4 medalists for 2013

Each year the Society awards science medals for outstanding works in areas within sedimentary geology. Selections are made by special committees for each medal from a list of nominated candidates. Candidates do not have to be members of the society and the SEPM Council reviews and approves the committees selection. The awardees are honored at a reception in the spring of the year at the Society's annual meeting, held in conjunction with the AAPG ACE, scheduled for Pittsburgh, PA, May 21st, 2013. Two other society science medals are still under consideration: Shepard Medal for excellence in marine geology and Honorary Membership for service to the science and the society.

The 2013 awards for four of the medals are:

  • Twenhofel Medal for career of excellence in sedimentary geology (highest honor):

  • Moore Medal for outstanding contributions in paleontology:

  • Pettijohn Medal for outstanding contributions in sedimentology and stratigraphy:

SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology) is an international not-for-profit Society officed in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Through its network of international members, the Society is dedicated to the dissemination of scientific infor- mation on sedimentology, stratigraphy, paleontology, environmental sciences, marine geology, hydrogeology, and many additional related specialties. The Society supports the science and its members in their professional objec- tives by publication of two major scientific journals, the Journal of Sedimentary Research (JSR) and PALAIOS, in addition to producing research conferences, short courses, and Special Publications. Through SEPM's Continuing Education, Publications, Meetings, and other programs, members can both gain and exchange information perti- nent to their geologic specialties.
