Tampa, FL (Jan. 10, 2013) – An expert panel of American Journal of Nursing (AJN) judges has selected a book co-authored by the University of South (USF) College of Nursing Dean as the 2012 AJN Book of the Year in the Nursing Research category.

"It is a great honor to receive a Book of the Year Award from the American Journal of Nursing," said Dr. Morrison-Beedy. The Book of the Year Award Program is a prestigious competition created by AJN in 1969, which brings attention to readers, librarians, and faculty in health care. AJN ranked Intervention Research: Designing, Conducting, Analyzing, and Funding as the best book in the Nursing Research Category for furthering an understanding of research and its application to practice in health care. In addition to Dr. Morrison-Beedy, contributing authors from USF included Barry B. Bercu, MD, FAAP; Cheryl L. Byers, MHA, CIP; Amanda Hastings, MSHL; Kevin Kip, PhD, FAHA; Cindy Munro, PhD, RN, ANP-BC, FAAN; LaRon Nelson, PhD, RN, NP; and Constance Visovsky, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC. The book was released in April 2012 by Springer Publishing Company.

Known nationally both as a scholar and a nursing leader, Dr. Morrison-Beedy has received several awards for her research, including the Excellence in HIV Prevention Award from the Association for Nurses in AIDS Care, the Florida Nurses Association Nursing Research Award, and an Excellence in Research award from the Association of Women's Health Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses for excellence in clinical practice and continued innovation in the delivery of care for women and newborns. She has received more than $11 million in research funding, has over 200 publications, and has served as a grant reviewer for the National Institutes of Health. She is a Fellow of the National Academies of Practice, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, and the American Academy of Nursing.

Dr. Morrison-Beedy's leadership has brought unprecedented growth to the USF College of Nursing. The College is ranked first in Florida and 24th in the nation for funding from the NIH.

In October 2012, Dr. Morrison-Beedy was honored with the Health Care Educator Award as one of the Tampa Bay Business Journal's (TBBJ) 2012 Health Care Heroes. TBBJ recognized the tremendous impact she's made in Tampa Bay as a healthcare leader, educator, and researcher.
