New York, July 14, 2014 - How does oxygen control insect body size? What influence does genetics have on insects' social structure? Articles published in the first issue of Current Opinion in Insect Science - launched today - aims to answer these and more questions.
Current Opinion in Insect Science is the latest title in Elsevier's Current Opinion journal series. It is a review journal that aims to provide specialists with a unique platform to keep up-to-date with the expanding volume of information published in the field of insect science. First articles published are now available for free on ScienceDirect.
Professor David Denlinger (Ohio State University, Columbus, OH, USA) and Dr. Jeff Harvey (Netherlands Institute of Ecology) lead the editorial board.
"Initially I was reluctant to launch a new journal as there are so many out there already," said Denlinger. "I soon realized the unique niche defined by Elsevier's Current Opinion series however. This addition to the series offers an exciting way to keep the growing community of insect scientists up to date on diverse hot topics affecting our field."

David Denlinger is a Distinguished University Professor at the Ohio State University. He has published more than 300 peer-reviewed articles and has co-edited several books. He was the co-editor of the Journal of Insect Physiology. Denlinger's recent research has focused on molecular and physiological mechanisms regulating insect diapause and cold hardiness.
Jeff Harvey is a senior scientist at the Netherlands Institute of Ecology and former Associate Editor of Nature. Harvey's research focuses on life history strategies in parasitoids and hyperparasitoids, plantherbivore-parasitoid interactions and community ecology; science and advocacy.
