The American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) together with the Chinese Thoracic Society (CTS) announced today at the annual congress of CTS that CHEST World Congress 2016 will be held in China. Clinicians specializing in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine from around the world are expected to participate in the event, slated for spring 2016.

CHEST World Congress 2016 will offer rich educational experiences including hands-on simulation training, keynote addresses, presentations by leading health-care experts, and reports on the latest research in chest medicine.

"We look forward to welcoming clinicians from around the globe to this premier event. After our success in Madrid with CHEST World Congress 2014, we intend to make CHEST World Congress 2016 in China an even greater experience for attendees," said Michael H. Baumann, MD, MS, FCCP, president of the American College of Chest Physicians.

"This program will offer the great clinical science our clinicians have come to expect from CHEST and will be easily accessible for our global community," said Darcy Marciniuk, MD, FCCP, CHEST World Congress 2016 program co-chair. "We look forward to a robust congress with opportunities for networking, our signature simulation education, as well as presentations by international thought leaders in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine."

In November 2013, CHEST and CTS partnered to develop and launch physician training programs in pulmonary and critical care medicine in China. This joint initiative seeks to unite the specialties of pulmonary and critical care medicine in China to improve patient care.

"The Chinese Thoracic Society is delighted to work with CHEST to conduct this important CHEST World Congress in China in 2016. Global collaboration to share knowledge is vital to advance the medical profession and to provide the best care for patients around the world," said Chen Wang, MD, PhD, FCCP, who serves as president of CTS and program co-chair for CHEST World Congress 2016.

"We are pleased to announce China as the location of our next CHEST World Congress. We couldn't be more thrilled or appreciative of our great friends at CTS for their support," said Paul A. Markowski, executive vice president and CEO at CHEST. "In addition to this congress, we are also working together to develop the first-ever pulmonary and critical care fellowship training program in China. We expect that our efforts will improve patient care and provide educational and clinical resources for clinicians practicing in China and throughout the world."
