We are pleased to host the Genetic Testing and Nondiscrimination workshop, which is organized by Genetic Alliance and IRB-BGI to be held on May 21-23, 2015, in Shenzhen, China.

May 21, 2015 is the 7th anniversary of the official enactment of the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act of 2008 (GINA) in the United States. This is a major milestone in the history of humanity. With the rapid development of genetic testing technology, genetic information is abundant and has brought to light increasing ethical and social challenges globally. The aim of the workshop is to stimulate global reflection and dialogue with regard to genetic testing and nondiscrimination, and to draft a code.

Draft topics to be considered at the workshop are as follow:

    1. The global proliferation of genetic testing and continued technology breakthroughs in genetic testing.

      a. Non-invasive Prenatal Testing & preimplantation genetic diagnosis;

      b. Rare disease, common disease, cancer.

    2. Global historical experience of genetic nondiscrimination.

    3. Demands created by the science and technology development: Freeing the data and assuring personal genetic information privacy protections.

We look forward to seeing you in Shenzhen in May, 2015.
