There has long been a tradition of ranking the best national universities in the USA. The ranking lists of the 500 Best Global Universities are generated using bibliometric analyses of the Web of Science, the results of the Thomson Reuters Academic Reputation Survey and publicly accessible data provided by the institutions of higher education.
