Global healthcare knowledge provider BMJ has added The Journal of ISAKOS: Joint Disorders & Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (JISAKOS) to its extensive portfolio of specialty journals, the company has announced.

The new title--due to launch in spring 2016--will serve as an official journal of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS).

"The principal aim is to advance the worldwide dissemination of knowledge and research in orthopaedic sports medicine and traumatology, arthroscopy, surgery and degenerative joint disease," said JISAKOS Editor-in-Chief Dr C. Niek Van Dijk. "The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for our patients."

JISAKOS will be a peer review journal with a strong practical and evidence base focus, designed to inform daily practice. Content will include review articles, the latest thinking on diagnosis and treatment, as well as historical approaches to seminal concepts or ideas.

All content will be posted online first, as part of continuous publication, with print issues published bimonthly.

Orthopaedic sports medicine is a rapidly evolving specialty. JISAKOS will help relevant specialists keep abreast of the latest clinical developments and evidence-based guidelines, and provide them with an understanding of the different approaches to diagnosis and treatment around the world.

Commenting on the announcement, BMJ's North American Managing Director, Glen C. Campbell, said: "BMJ is delighted to be working with ISKAOS on the launch of this unique journal. JISAKOS will be a significant addition to the medical and surgical literature."

"ISAKOS is pleased to be working with BMJ, as a leader in the field of medical publishing," added Michele C. Johnson, Executive Director, ISAKOS. "We look forward to contributing to the global dialogue on arthroscopy, knee surgery, orthopaedic sports medicine and patient care. JISAKOS will be of great value to our diverse and growing membership and the global medical community."
