Elsevier announces the International Conference on Cocoa, Coffee and Tea

CoCoTea 2015 will be held June 22-24 at the University of Aveiro, Portugal

Oxford, June 16, 2015 - Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and solutions, announces the third international conference on the science of cocoa, coffee and tea: CoCoTea 2015. The conference will take place 22-24 June at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. It offers an interdisciplinary podium for discussion among scientists dealing with these products from the perspective of, among others, the fields of chemistry, technology, metabolomics, nutraceutics, and health.

The conference will be chaired by Professor Manuel Coimbra, Associate Professor at the University of Aveiro, where he teaches biochemistry and food chemistry and is Editor for the journal Carbohydrate Polymers. Keynote speaker at the conference will be Paula Varela, Senior Researcher at NOFIMA Norway, one of the largest institutes for applied research within the fields of fisheries, aquaculture and food research in Europe. Her lecture will be about the intricacies of sensory perception from a consumer perspective, with examples related to coffee, tea and chocolate.

"I see this conference as meeting point for scientists from various fields looking into the challenging world of coffee, tea and cocoa", said Varela. "These are very complex food products that require a multidisciplinary approach. CoCotea 2015 is a great networking opportunity for researchers from across the globe to make contact and not only find common interests but also expand their knowledge on these food products."

Rupal Malde, Publisher responsible for Elsevier's food journal portfolio, said, "Not only do cocoa, coffee and tea bring so many people across the globe together because they're popular foods, they also fascinate and unite great scientists."
