Public Release:

Nurturing the entrepreneurs of tomorrow

A central role for Europe's universities

Technical University of Munich (TUM)

Monday, 29 June 2015. Journalists are cordially invited to attend the discussion at the Bibliotheque Solvay, which will take place from 17:30 to 19:45, followed by a networking reception. The topic is the central role of Europe's universities in nurturing the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

The expectation to strengthen Europe's competitiveness has never been higher. In addition to sufficient investment in research and innovation, this calls for a continuously improved climate for entrepreneurship and job creation. With their engagement across the whole research and innovation cycle, leading universities of science and technology are at the forefront of fostering excellent research as well as the transformation of new knowledge into innovative products and services.

The EuroTech Universities' entrepreneurship activities cover the entire value chain from knowledge generation, awareness raising, and education and training of students and scientists to patent applications, international business development, and investment in start-ups. The results are evident - more than 300 start-ups were created between the four universities in the period 2012-2014.

A strategic partnership of leading universities of science and technology, the EuroTech Universities Alliance is organizing this event in order to promote open debate among leading stakeholders on the central role universities play in nurturing entrepreneurship in Europe.

The keynote talk will be given by PATRICK AEBISCHER, President, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL).

This will be followed by a panel discussion, including Q&A with the audience. The panelists are:

  • Wolfgang A. Herrmann, President, Technische Universität München (TUM)
  • Robert Madelin, Director-General for Communications, Networks, Content & Technology, European Commission
  • Matthias Meyer, Founder & Head of BMW Start-up Garage
  • Adam Hartmann, Co-founder, Eupry and master's student, Technical University of Denmark (DTU)
