ALEXANDRIA, VA -- The American Academy of Otolaryngology--Head and Neck Surgery and its Foundation are pleased to announce that its clinical data registry, RegentSM , has been approved as a Qualified Clinical Data Registry (QCDR) by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Regent is an otolaryngology-specific clinical data registry that allows members to report on quality measures for federal and private programs, and will become the foundation for quality improvement and research, will define quality for the specialty, and will support certification and licensure.
The QCDR designation provides the ability to satisfy requirements for the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) based on participation. A QCDR is a CMS-approved entity that collects clinical data to foster improvement in the quality of care furnished to patients.
"Securing QCDR status for Regent is critical, particularly as payment for quality continues its evolution both with CMS and private payers," said James C. "Regent data will be invaluable in documenting the value of care provided by our members, creating measures for public and private payment programs, and enabling research around multiple disease conditions."

"Regent will report the standard PQRS measures we are familiar with, but it also allows us to create up to 30 otolaryngology-specific quality measures."
Regent is currently in the pilot testing phase with 30 participating practices and is expected to fully launch to AAO-HNS members this summer.
