Canadian Science Publishing (CSP) is pleased to announce that FACETS, Canada's first and only multidisciplinary open access science journal, has now fully launched. FACETS has been developed on a state-of-the-art online publishing platform and the launch includes two peer-reviewed articles with many more slated to be published in the coming weeks.

"Canadian Science Publishing's goal is to be an innovative leader in scholarly publishing in Canada and around the world," says CSP Executive Director, Suzanne Kettley. "To be a leader in today's ecosystem of scholarly publishing means fostering open access to scientific research and facilitating the new and innovative business models and partnerships that support open access," continues Ms. Kettley. "In developing FACETS we have responded directly to the needs of researchers who have told us that they require a trusted open access channel that is rigorously reviewed, that works to advance scientific knowledge, and that facilitates multi- and interdisciplinary research," states Ms. Kettley. "Though FACETS is a new journal, as its publisher CSP has over 85 years of experience, dedication, and expertise in publishing Canadian and international research."

Today FACETS launches with a broad scope that encompasses six major research fields and over 30 subjects. Additional subject areas will be added as the journal evolves in conjunction with emerging scientific advances. As a multidisciplinary journal, FACETS publishes at the interface of the traditional fields of inquiry, facilitating scholarly communication and enhancing knowledge transfer. The Integrative Sciences section, for example, was developed to meet the unique challenges of researchers publishing in fields that link the sciences and social sciences, and will include topics of particular interest to a wide Canadian and international audience such as science and policy, science and society, conservation and sustainability, and public health.

"As an interdisciplinary researcher myself, I know firsthand that interdisciplinary scientific approaches will be required to solve complex challenges in society in the coming decades," says Dr. Jules Blais, Founding Editor-in-Chief of FACETS and Professor of Biology at the University of Ottawa. "In addition to its novel approach to multidisciplinary publishing, FACETS is anchored by a growing editorial board of international experts who have contributed to making the journal truly multidisciplinary in scope. With each member's in-depth knowledge of their various fields, researchers submitting to FACETS benefit from the collective knowledge of a large network of readers and supporters who will ensure papers are shared and discussed by the widest possible audience."

FACETS is now accepting submissions and is waiving the article processing charge for any manuscripts submitted by June 30, 2016. To submit, learn more about the journal and to read the first published articles please visit http://www.facetsjournal.com.
