IOF Committee of National Societies Medal awarded to Dr. Elias Hanna Saba

Chief Executive Director of Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society recognized for his longstanding contributions to IOF and dedicated work in the field of bone health and osteoporosis awareness

Malaga, Spain, April 17, 2016

Dr Elias Hanna Saba, Chief Executive Director of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society (POPS), was awarded the International Osteoporosis Foundation's (IOF) Committee of National Societies (CNS) Medal during the World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases (WCO-IOF-ESCEO 2016).

The CNS Medal recognizes an individual who has made an important contribution to the cause of osteoporosis prevention through active participation in CNS activities and by expanding IOF's messages and outreach in his/her country. The CNS, comprising 234 patient and medical societies worldwide, is IOF's core membership committee. Its membership represents the world's largest single network of national and regional organizations dedicated to the prevention of osteoporosis and related musculoskeletal disorders.

Professor Jean-Yves Reginster, Chair of the CNS and IOF Board member presented the medal to Dr Saba, and commented: "With his more than 26-years of experience in the field of bone and muscle health, and his longstanding dedication to patient and health professional education, Dr Saba is one of the most respected osteoporosis advocates in the Middle East region. As representative of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Patient Society, he has continually demonstrated great commitment in IOF's CNS. He is a truly deserving recipient of this third edition of this important award."

Dr Saba is the Director of the Bone and Muscle Health Center in Hebron (under establishment). He was formerly the Head of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation, and Director of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Diagnostic Center in Bethlehem. In addition to his leadership of the Palestinian Osteoporosis Prevention Society, Dr Saba is also Board member, past President and former General Secretary of the Pan Arab Osteoporosis Society (PAOS).
