Dr. Le Lorier is the founder and department head of the CRCHUM's pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology research unit and a professor at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Medicine.

A member of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), of the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS) and of several drug evaluation committees, he has published over 150 articles in his career, many in major medical journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, the JAMA, the British Medical Journal and the Annals of Internal Medicine.

With 50 years of experience in pharmacoeconomics and pharmacoepidemiology, Dr. Le Lorier acts as a drug evaluation expert. He has influenced national and international policies concerning drug use and reimbursement. He was the first president of the Quebec Pharmacology Advisory Board and continues to be called upon as an expert in Canada and elsewhere in the world.

In one of his many achievements, he demonstrated that reimbursement of the cost of ciprofloxacin, an antibiotic administered orally for acute pyelonephritis and chronic bronchitis, reduced hospitalizations and represented savings for the public health system. An enthusiastic professor and well-liked mentor, Dr. Le Lorier has trained many generations of physicians, pharmacists and young clinician scientists, and he was twice voted "best teacher" at the University of Montreal's Faculty of Medicine.

Now 76, Dr. Le Lorier continues to be active in research and teaching, devoting time and energy to training young researchers in clinical epidemiology.
