A two-volume set, The SAGE Encyclopedia of Political Behavior includes 365 entries from authors from many different educational, professional, and geographical backgrounds. The entries cover classic topics, such as dictatorship and feminism, as well as newer topics, such as the International Criminal Court and "Do No Harm" as a code of action.
"This encyclopedia plays an important part in spreading knowledge about how people behave in the political domain," writes Dr. Fathali M. Moghaddam, editor, professor, and director of the Interdisciplinary Program in Cognitive Science at Georgetown University. "I strongly believe in the dictum that knowledge is power, and that by spreading knowledge more broadly, we are also spreading power more evenly, giving the general public greater opportunities to participate in political processes and influence the most important political decisions."
This multi-disciplinary text covers topics such as voting patterns, security and terrorism, and the impact of early childhood development on political beliefs, among many others. It also addresses numerous topics of interest in fields beyond either psychology or political science, with implications, for instance, for business and management.
Dr. Moghaddam continued, "The encyclopedia serves as part of a larger effort to strengthen civic and political education in an effort to support movement toward democracy and openness."
The text comes with a Reader's Guide, which groups entries based on specific topics. Each entry includes a "See also" list, which allows the reader to examine a topic in greater depth, and concludes with a section on "Further Readings".
