Douglas Sawyer, M.D., Ph.D. is Co-Director, Myocardial Biology & Heart Failure Research Lab and
Chief, Cardiovascular Services at Maine Medical Center, USA. As a physician-scientist focused on heart failure, he leads a research and training program developing novel insights into the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease and innovative strategies to prevent and treat advanced heart failure. Ramachandran Vasan, M.D. is a noninvasive cardiologist with specialization in cardiovascular epidemiology, and a senior investigator at the Framingham Heart Study, USA. He is the co-director of the echocardiography and vascular testing laboratory at the Framingham Heart Study and directs its fellowship training program. His epidemiological research has focused on four inter-related areas: the epidemiology of congestive heart failure, population-based vascular testing and echocardiography, epidemiology of high blood pressure, and exercise physiology.
