UC Berkeley to hold first Collider Cup for semester's top tech startups

WHAT: The first-ever Collider Cup will showcase the semester's best student startups in hot technology areas such as artificial intelligence, alternative meats, privacy and data science to professors, investors, and industry experts for a chance at bragging rights in the first edition of the competition.

WHEN: The event, hosted by the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology, will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 8th. Reporters are encouraged to attend and interview students, professors and industry leaders during the lunch hour about courses, entrepreneurship and emerging technologies.

WHO: The event will feature pitches from sixteen teams, representing top startup projects from eight of Berkeley's best technology entrepreneurship courses, including the Alternative Meat Lab, Noise Injection Collider, Internet 3.0, Technology Entrepreneurship and the Berkeley Method of Entrepreneurship Bootcamp.

DETAILS: Students from the Alternative Meat Lab will present plant-based meat prototypes and startup ideas to take advantage of the rapidly rising demand for meat alternatives. Students from the Noise Injection Collider will present tools that inject irrelevant or misdirected noise into the Internet data stream to mask individual identity and protect privacy. From the Internet 3.0 course, students will present projects to tackle issues such as fake news, trolling, and individual lack of privacy and data control.

In 2005, the Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology founded the Berkeley entrepreneurship ecosystem including SkyDeck, the Fung Institute, the Engineering Leadership Professional Program, Global Venture Lab, and an extensive ecosystem of Silicon Valley and Global partners. The Sutardja Center has served over 10,000 students over the past 12 years. Every semester new courses are revised and added to keep up with the constantly evolving entrepreneurship community.
