The ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine is proud to announce that Priya Prasad, MD from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA is the recipient of the ACMG Foundation/David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award.

The David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award was created in memory of the late Dr. David L. Rimoin, one of the founders of ACMG who passed away in 2012. Dr. Rimoin touched the lives of generations of patients as well as trainees and colleagues. This award is a cash award given to a selected student, trainee, or junior faculty ACMG member whose abstract submission is chosen as a platform presentation during the ACMG Annual Clinical Genetics Meeting.

Dr. Prasad was selected to receive this award for her platform presentation, "Outcomes and Opportunities: Population Based Hereditary Cancer Risk Assessment During Screening Mammography." She is currently a second year Medical Genetics Fellow at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Earlier she completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology residency training from New York, where faced with genetics related questions from patients suffering from infertility, gynecological cancers and patients who were expecting, she realized the importance of genetics training for ObGyn Physicians. After completing her fellowship at UCLA, she is scheduled to join Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship at Wayne State University, Michigan.

"I am extremely honored and humbled to have received the David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award. Dr. Rimoin was an exemplary physician whose transcendent contributions will guide me throughout my professional life. I am so very grateful to the selection committee for this prestigious award, one that will always serve as an impetus to achieving excellence in all my future endeavors," said Dr. Prasad upon receiving the award.

"Dr. Rimoin was dedicated to the mentoring of trainees in all areas of medical genetics. We are proud to recognize this legacy through the David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award," said Bruce R. Korf, MD, PhD, FACMG, President of the ACMG Foundation for Genetic and Genomic Medicine.

Ann Garber, Dr. Rimoin's widow said, "The Rimoin family is pleased to congratulate Dr. Prasad on her valuable research that points to opportunities to enhance the appropriate utilization of screening for hereditary cancers. We are proud to recognize and support her valuable contributions to medical genetics with the David L. Rimoin Inspiring Excellence Award."
