Portland State receives NSF grant to battle cyber-security threats

Grant and Award Announcement

Portland State University

A research team led by Portland State University computer science professor Fang Song will receive a $275,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to help solve cyber-security problems created by quantum computers.

This new breed of computer, which harnesses the laws of quantum mechanics, has the power to thwart conventional internet security measures. The PSU project seeks to understand the cryptography-breaking power of quantum computers, develop new computer science courses, and fund outreach efforts to high school students and teachers to broaden participation in computer science.

The University of Maryland and the University of Connecticut will collaborate with PSU on the project.
