Declining nuclear power in the United States

In a Perspective, researchers suggest that over the next several decades, declining numbers of existing nuclear reactors, a lack of commercially available advanced reactor designs, and the absence of a sufficiently large, economically viable domestic market for factory-built small modular nuclear reactors will together prevent nuclear power from significantly contributing to decarbonization of the US energy system, barring major changes in policy and market conditions.
