DFG funds 2 Collaborative Research Centres at TUD

Comprehensible software and frustrated magnets

Grant and Award Announcement

Technische Universität Dresden

The Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 248 "Fundamentals of Comprehensible Software Systems" will be newly established. Scientists from TU Dresden, Saarland University and the Max Planck Institutes for Informatics (MPI-INF) and Software Systems (MPI-SWS) are conducting joint research on the scientific basis for computer-aided systems of the future, which explain the functionality and properties themselves. In the future, it will be possible to create software-based systems that operate predictably and clearly. This will serve society's growing need to maintain control over the computerised systems with which we interact on a daily basis and will enable an understandable cyber-physical world. https://www.perspicuous-computing.science

The Collaborative Research Centre 1143 "Correlated Magnetism: From Frustration to Topology" will receive funding for a further four years. The core topics are unusual magnets in which "frustration" occurs, i.e. where the interactions of magnetic building blocks are incompatible with each other. This phenomenon often leads to new states of matter that are fundamentally different from those of ordinary magnets. The objectives of the Collaborative Research Centre are to find and synthesise suitable materials, to investigate them, to understand their properties and to develop possible application concepts. https://tu-dresden.de/mn/physik/sfb1143?set_language=en
