Using the number of scientific publications during 2010-2017 as a proxy for research intensity on a given infectious disease, researchers report that research intensity relative to published global disease burden was high for influenza, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis C, and tuberculosis, and low for paratyphoid fever; certain neglected tropical diseases, such as Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, and leprosy, also had high research intensity relative to their disease burden, according to the authors.
