Business Announcement

American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is pleased to announce the launch of the third journal in its Science Partner Journal program, Biomedical Engineering (BME) Frontiers, the official journal of Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIBET CAS). BME Frontiers will be distributed by AAAS in association with SIBET CAS.

The mission of BME Frontiers is to help promote discussions among the multidisciplinary community - including physicists, engineers, and clinical researchers - of biomedical engineering. The journal will publish breakthrough research in the fields of pathogenic mechanisms as well as disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and assessment. Articles will be based upon innovative fundamental and translational concepts, devices, systems, processes, and/or methods.

The scope of BME Frontiers will include, but not be limited to, biomedical imaging and sensing; neuro-engineering; biomaterials and tissue engineering; computational medicine; and translational biomedical engineering.

Professor Jianlin Cao, Former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, will serve as the honorary editor in chief. Professor Xingde Li of Johns Hopkins University, Professor Yuguo Tang of SIBET CAS, and Professor Guoqi Zhang of Delft University of Technology will serve as the co-editors in chief of BME Frontiers. Dr. Shoupeng Liu from SIBET CAS will serve as the journal's chief managing editor.

The editorial office for BME Frontiers is now open for submissions, and the journal will officially launch in September 2019, publishing original research papers, rapid reports, reviews, and perspectives. BME Frontiers will publish under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). Prospective authors are encouraged to submit their research at https://www.editorialmanager.com/bmef/default.aspx. Additional information about the journal can be read at https://spj.sciencemag.org/bmef/.

Director Yuguo Tang of SIBET CAS emphasizes that "SIBET is a unique national institute in biomedical engineering among the 104 institutes of CAS. We are eager to establish a solid platform to promote communication among physicists, engineers, and clinical researchers, and today this long-expected opportunity has finally come to fruition. We will dedicate ourselves to fully cooperate with AAAS in launching BME Frontiers and I am confident that the journal will be a success and advance the field of biomedical engineering science."

"In selecting partners for the Science Partner Journal program, we seek out partners that represent the same dedication to editorial and research excellence found in the Science family of journals, and we believe that SIBET CAS exemplifies this dedication," said Bill Moran, Publisher of the Science family of journals at AAAS. "We are excited to work with this organization, and with the editorial team under the leadership of Dr. Xingde Li. We look forward to seeing BME Frontiers become a highly successful publication integral to the larger Science Partner Journal program."

New titles participating in the Science Partner Journal program will launch on a semi-annual basis and participation in the program is restricted to English-language publications. AAAS is actively seeking new partners across scientific disciplines. Organizations participating in the Science Partner Journal program will be editorially independent and responsible for the content published in each journal. To oversee the publication process, each organization will provide professional editors committed to best practices in peer review and author service.
