ATS 2019, Dallas, TX-- Retinal vascular tortuosity, a microvascular abnormality of the eye, may provide doctors with a noninvasive way of determining the extent of vascular remodeling in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension, according to research presented at ATS 2019. In this study involving humans and mice, retinal vascular tortuosity was linked to pulmonary vascular remodeling, a hallmark of PAH, suggesting that the eye may provide important information about the health of the pulmonary circulation.
