Alexandria, Va., USA - The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced Isabelle Denry, University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA, as the 2019 recipient of Wilmer Souder Award in Dental Caries Award. Denry was recognized at the Opening Ceremonies of the 97th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 48th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR). The IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition is held at the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building in Vancouver, BC, Canada from June 19-22, 2019.
Denry currently has a dual appointment as Professor at the Iowa Institute for Oral Health Research and Department of Prosthodontics in the College of Dentistry and as Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA. She received her D.D.S., M.S. and a Ph.D. in Dental Sciences from the University of Paris, School of Chemistry, France.
Denry is internationally recognized for her achievements in developing and characterizing ceramics for dental applications understanding and describing the mechanisms and kinetics of processes affecting material failure. Her latest research focuses on resorbable bioactive glassceramic scaffolds with engineered topography and chemistry for bone replacement as well as smart release of antimicrobial coating on dental implants. Denry has published more than 40 high quality, peer-reviewed publications and holds four U.S. patents.
Supported by an endowment provided by the IADR Dental Materials Group, this is the oldest of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and consists of a monetary prize and a plaque. The award honors Dr. Wilmer Souder, the motivating force in establishing the Dental Section at the National Bureau of Standards and is designed to encourage interest in dental materials research. It is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
