Shunsuke Minakuchi received 2019 award in geriatric oral research

Alexandria, Va., USA - The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced Shunsuke Minakuchi, Tokyo Medical & Dental University, Japan, as the 2019 recipient of Award in Geriatric Oral Research. Minakuchi was recognized at the Opening Ceremonies of the 97th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 48th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR). The IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition is held at the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building in Vancouver, BC, Canada from June 19-22, 2019.

Minakuchi is a Professor in the Department of Gerodontology and Oral Rehabilitation at the Graduate School of Tokyo Medical and Dental University. Minakuchi began his career at Tokyo Medical and Dental University where he studied the movement of facial surfaces during oral function. His research focuses on masticatory performance and various aspects of clinical prosthodontics.

Minakuchi has published several books and over 115 scientific papers. He has been the recipient of several research honors, including the IADR Prosthodontics Research Group's Neal Garrett Clinical Research Prize in 2016.

The Distinguished Scientist Award in Geriatric Oral Research consists of a monetary award and plaque and is generously supported by GlaxoSmithKline. The award is designed to stimulate, encourage and recognize outstanding research accomplishments in the field of geriatric oral research. This is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards and is one of the highest honors bestowed by IADR.
