Walter Siqueira received 2019 Salivary Research Award

International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research

Alexandria, Va., USA - The International Association for Dental Research (IADR) announced Walter Siqueira, University of Western Ontario, London, Canada, as the 2019 recipient of Salivary Research Award. Siqueira was recognized at the Opening Ceremonies of the 97th General Session & Exhibition of the IADR, held in conjunction with the 48th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) and the 43rd Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR). The IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition is held at the Vancouver Convention Centre West Building in Vancouver, BC, Canada from June 19-22, 2019.

Siqueira is the Associate Dean of Graduate and Postgraduate Dental Education and Acting Chair of the Schulich Dentistry Continuing Dental Education, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada.

Siqueira obtained his D.D.S from Santo Amaro University, São Paulo, Brazil, and his Ph.D. in Oral Biology at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He pursued postdoctoral training at Boston University, Massachusetts, USA and then joined Western University in London, Canada where he supervises a large research group and has established an international reputation as a leader in salivary research.

Siqueira has demonstrated scientific excellence which is reflected by his many outstanding publications and consistent success in obtaining funding for his work, including the "Leader's Opportunity Fund" from the Canada Foundation for Innovation. He has published more than 85 papers and has served on numerous editorial boards. Siqueira received the 2012 Salivary Researcher of the Year award from the IADR Salivary Research Group and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research New Investigator Award.

Siqueira has served as Councilor-at-Large of the Canadian Association for Dental Research and his currently serving as Vice-president and is the President elect for 2019-2021. Siqueira has served as President (2012-13) and Scientific Program Chair (2015-17) of the IADR Salivary Research Group.

The IADR Salivary Research Award was designed to stimulate and recognize outstanding and innovative achievements that have contributed to the basic understanding of the salivary gland structure, secretion, and function, or salivary composition and function. It consists of a monetary award and a plaque, and is one of the 17 IADR Distinguished Scientist Awards, representing one of the highest honors bestowed by the IADR.
