Statistical analysis of large ensembles of Antarctic ice sheet simulations suggests that marine ice sheet instability increases the uncertainty in projections of ice sheet volume loss and consequent sea level rise, and skews the distribution of probable outcomes, such that sea level rise is more likely to exceed rather than fall behind the average projection, according to the authors.
