Grant and Award Announcement

Children's Hospital Colorado

Aurora, Colo. (August 5, 2019) ? Children's Hospital Colorado is celebrating an incredible 25 years of performing blood and marrow transplants. The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Colorado offers the Rocky Mountain region's most experienced dedicated pediatric blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapeutics program. The program, founded in 1994 by Dr. Roger Giller and now led by Dr. Michael Verneris has performed more than 1,000 bone marrow and stem cell transplants and has some of the best survival rates in the country, making our program one of the most successful pediatric BMT programs in North America.

Today, a little more than halfway through 2019, Children's Colorado BMT program has already had 1,728 outpatient visits at the Anschutz campus. That number is expected to grow even faster with the introduction of a new access point at our Colorado Springs hospital and will rise further as we open access to more chimeric antigen (CAR)-T-cell treatments this year.

"Our priority is to give our patients the best chance, even those with the toughest most complex cases. Through our pioneering research and compassionate, multi-disciplinary care, the Blood and Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapeutics program is an exemplar for other children's hospitals to strive for, " said Dr. Lia Gore, the director for the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) at Children's Hospital Colorado. "The impact makes a real difference for patients here in Colorado, in the United States, and around the world."

Our team members are actively involved in pediatric bone marrow transplant and cellular therapy research with the goal of improving outcomes for children, adolescents and young adults with a variety of different diseases. Our ongoing research projects focus on optimizing the success of these treatments, performing the newest types of transplants and cell therapy treatments, and helping ensure high quality of life for survivors.
