Researchers combined models to examine how the production and exportation of soy from the Brazilian Cerrado affected biodiversity between 2000 and 2010, and found links between various sourcing patterns of soy and diversity of plant and animal species; for example, the heaviest losses to the giant anteater's range were in Mato Grosso and particularly driven by consumption of soy in Brazil, China, and the European Union, revealing links between consumption patterns and habitat loss for certain species, according to the authors.
